Day 3
Just a bit on a side note and meandering on options.
The past 2 days made me realize how fragile those words like "security", "safety" and etc. are. I don't mean that I'm hell of a scared of the armed conflict happening now, I'm taking the necessary precautions (like not leaving my house EVER). But the fact that things can get out of control and spiral down in SUCH A SMALL TIME - that one is the scariest part.
Of course, I have a lot that I don't know. It's like a map of the jungle: a lot of white patches, undiscovered truths (whose truth is it anyway?), or species to which no attention was directed yet. All I'm doing is to read articles and dig myself into forums and discussions and discovering or realizing that Ecuador has a lot of ties with Mexican cartels is quite chilling to learn. Not in a relaxing way.
You can dig into it yourself too, as there are tons of information about it how the negotiations with FARC have affected Ecuador. It's ironic how I can feel myself home in a middle-man country - the same like my own homeland was in a position many times.
Anyway. The aim of today's post was basically to make you realize that don't just think that your built-up American dream or European safety ties will protect you. Yesterday, I wrote how fascinating the human mind is. Today I'd also add that how cruels humans could be. It's too easy to get things out of control and harder to restrain it. You just only need to tip the balance. Once. I'd almost say, the safety net we're living in is an illusion.
I'll be safe.
Here are a bunch of articles and forums again from today's collection:

And so, that I should post something heartwarming, too: they discovered a more than 25OO-year-old culture in Ecuador, too! Whoa, Ecuador's got the headlines a lot nowadays!

By the way, I got extra classes because some teachers have already left (and rest are considering to). I heard from another friend that in GYE, there were door-to-door searches. In general, people in Loja seem hopeful and trusting the military and police. And, I read here, that around 5OO criminals are already out of Ecuador. Noboa's plan (I wish I could find that article to back up - will later, I promise): gang members who don't have Ecuadorian citizenships, are deported. They're left in Colombia and Peru.
Also, friends in Guayaquil or Machala are safe, too.
