Day 2

I would lie if I said that I had a sound sleep. It was a heavy rain during the night and every time (once an hour) since 4 am, I woke up to the raindrops hitting the gutter hard, imagining, that a drug lord is trying to get into our flat, through our house.

But, luckily, that wasn't the case. I was also cold. Plus, everyone looked scared and shaken, especially after the attack of the TV station yesterday. But luckily, those attackers were captures. Let me show a couple of articles I was reading about the unfolding events:

And also some forums, I was trying to get information from:

At night, Pop asked me: do you hear it? It was deadpan silent. Not a single car crossed the main avenue which we live next to. In some further points, we could hear some muffled sirens, but other than that, nothing really happened.

We messaged both our respective embassies and the reply we got was not to go out after dark, or near gas stations, and avoid any crowds. It wasn't discouraging and or even a message that would make me feel scared and to leave home (?) immediately.

However, I did put our passports closer to us, because you never know what the night brings. To be honest, I am preparing mentally if we need to leave the country earlier or to stay in Brazil longer than planned.

When I woke up, in the morning I read some news that 76 or even more people were captured, unfortunately 11 or so died (the news detail it who, where, and how), but in general, the mood of the day was not as scary or discouraging.

Fernando and René dropped in for a minute by us, and they told us that everything was back to normal in Loja. The buses are going (maybe not the provincial ones, I have no idea about that), but I do hear the local buses crossing the avenue. From the noises, it seems like, life returned to normal, to my limited knowledge, at least. Then, there are these posts:

Since last night, there was a death threat coming from the drug cartels if anyone goes out to the streets at night, we decided not to leave the house the entire day today.

There was news that there would be a curfew from 5 pm today, but now it is said that nothing changed, it was going to be from 11 pm, like last night. Although initially, we weren't going to go out, but after having a phone call with my mom and also seeing the guys, we decided to go and buy some foods in the shop right next to us. The city did seem more lively, indeed. Cars were driven, though it's safe to say that we were the only pedestrians on the street.  Although most of the little shops and "negocios" were closed, luckily we found some basic ingredients in the ones which were opened. It was bittersweet though as the clouds lifted up and it was really really nice and warm weather. (As I'm typing these lines, I can also hear the usual sound of the garbage collector car. It is indeed, very relaxing.)

After buying some ingredients, we scurried back to home and I continued with my online classes. There is nothing much to say yet, only that my eyes are bawling out due to the too much screen time, and, that the cloud that was covering my chest and head during the first part of the day is slowly lifting up too... :-) Hoping for easier days and deeper sleep.

Hungarian version is coming soon....
